Analysation of an opening sequence of The Devil's Backbone

Opening Sequence

G e n r e -  The genre of this film is horror drama .
It starts with creepy score music, building suspence and fiery broken-like shrift to list the cast and crew.
The sequence starts with a voice over of an old man talking about what a ghost is. That tells the audience the film is going to be about a ghost - a typical horror film theme.
The audience is shown a close up of a young boy laying in a pool of blood - suffering. And a boy leaning over him, crying and trying to help. That initially leads us to believe that one of the boys killed the other one by accident. The boy is shown, thrown into a pool of blurry muddy water, stretching his hands out for help. Then the scene cuts to a fetus in a jar, as signification of death and birth colliding at some point. Then a backbone is shown on the same background of dirty water more reddish this time, as bloody.
C h a r a c h t e r - The boy crying is shown as a killer, but an innesent as he is sorry for what he's done. In horror films though the opening scene tricks the viewer, so we wouldn't know for sure
N a r r a t i v eThe opening sequence doesn't reveil very much of the story. It only engages the audience into it's mystery and riddles - with the voiceover of the old man. The voice over sound like his scattered thoughts that one would be thinking to himself after something big has happened to them. He sounds like he's still in shock by something long gone.

E n i g m a  - The enigma in this sequence is the death of the young boy, who killed him . An who is the other boy crying for what has happened. Are they related? Who is the old man? And why is he talking about a ghost, is it the young boy returning to avenge his death?!
