Evaluation Question 7 :
Question 7 : Looking back at your Preliminary Task, what do you feel you have learned in progression from it to the full product?
The Preliminary Task was much easier and faster to do compared to the two minutes of our opening sequence.
As for the Preliminary Task, we were already set the shots and techniques we had to use, as match on action, a two shot of a conversation, and we simply had to keep in mind the 180 degree rule. As we had that in mind, the editing went smoother and faster, we figured out how to combine the shots we've used and how to film them, so it's easier for the editor to put them together.
For our own film though, we had to come up with out own shots and plan which ones will look better for a certain scene and which ones we can't use, if the 180 degree rule has been broken.
Adding the sound, designing a logo and adding lighting effects on our footage has also been a bigger challenge. It took more time and effort for our editor as well as for me as a camera woman. I shot every scene from about two different angles and used a close up and a long shot, so that when we look at them all at the end we'd have a variety of footage to choose from. While the Preliminary Task, said loud and clear what we should do.
This time we had no technical problems as with the Task, but because of the different cameras we used, the lighting was different, so Elina changed all the footage in black and white, to conceal that.
At first she thought, that only the scenes with the girl should be in color and the rest black and white, reverse to what other horror films are like, but the lighting problem was too obvious for that.
